Upon waking, the graphics pipeline often fails to restore its state, throwing Direct3D device loss errors and crashing to desktop. At other times, the integrated controllers fail to re-initialize, leaving you with a running game that cannot accept inputs. 

To bypass this, Asus suggests configuring the power button to trigger a system hibernation. While hibernation preserves the game state on the SSD, it introduces significant resume latency: forcing the user to sit through a cold-boot animation and wait for the controller driver to poll and bind.

Valve solved this by writing their own Linux-based OS layer. Under SteamOS, the game runs inside an isolated container managed by Proton, outputting to "Gamescope", a custom micro-compositor. 

Because Valve controls the entire graphic stack down to the kernel level, pressing the Steam Deck's power button safely freezes the execution thread of the active Vulkan or translation-layer context.
